– January 25, 2004
– Howell Township Mayor Joseph DiBella announced today that he plans to
introduce an ordinance that would have permit and application fees waived for
the immediate families of those on active military duty. The plan would call for
such fees to be waived for the spouses of any person while that person is on
active duty serving the nation.
According
to Mayor DiBella, “we have many Howell residents who have and continue to
sacrifice a great deal to protect our country. I believe we have an obligation
to do all we can to support the families of our military personnel while they
are away from home. In many cases, these families have one person in the
household now working to make ends meet. Our waiving the fees for permits and
applications is the least we can do to help them at this time.”
The
governing body meets again on Tuesday, February 1st. Mayor DiBella is
expected to introduce legislation that evening that address this issue.
DiBella
went on to say,” the governing body feels very strongly that we need to do all
we can to help the families of active military personnel. I expect we’ll be
able to pass this piece of legislation with great speed.
