HOWELL – At
the Township Council meeting last evening, Councilman Joseph DiBella announced
that the Township will be absorbing the cost of building a new concession stand,
storage area and bathroom facilities for the North Howell Little League. The
budget adopted by the Council included the necessary down-payment to bond for
the new structure, estimated to cost approximately $150,000.
“Representatives
from the league came in front of the governing body some time ago and have been
waiting for several years for this financial help,” DiBella said. “So, I’m
thrilled we were able to get this into this year’s budget. They have been
waiting for many years and so this improvement is long overdue.”
Councilwoman
Cynthia Schomaker said, “Our providing this funding is indicative of our
commitment to giving our youth recreation programs with the support they need
and deserve. For too many years, recreation has not received full support. Since
last year, we have significantly stepped up our support and we hope to make up
for the years of neglect that many of our organized programs have
experienced.”
Since January 2003, the Republican majority on Township Council has made recreation for residents of all ages a major theme of their administration. The centerpiece of this ambitious platform is the acquisition of 300 acres of contiguous open space inside the Route 9 and Interstate 195 area that the governing body has earmarked for passive and active recreational use.
